"I — I hardly know, sir, just at present — at least I know who I was when I got up this morning, but I think I must have been changed several times since then." (McLuhan 154) I have taken this quote genially for this project and made a video with soundscape. I first made a soundscape of the day using only free sounds from online. It first opens with an alarm in the morning, then to the bathroom, to cooking breakfast, going out of the house, riding the train, then the sound of school, practicing, eating dinner, taking a bath, and finally jumping onto the bed. Then I also included a picture of myself related to soccer from kindergarten to elementary school.  And then I recreated a day, except for going to school, I made it to go to a professional soccer game. Along with the sound, I put a picture of myself playing soccer at middle and high school, and eventually pictures of me playing soccer here at Lawrence. What I tried with this video was to show "I know who I was whe...

"The ear favors no particular "point of view." We are enveloped by sound. It forms a seamless web around us. We hear sounds from everywhere, without ever having to focus. Sounds come from "above," from "below," from in "front" of us, from "behind" us, from our "right," from our "left." For me, it was the sound of the train station. As a kid, I used to just go to the local train station and watch the trains go by for a whole day. Still to this day, the love for the train does not end. For this project, I took inspiration from a Japanese train line/station that I used a lot back then. Ueno station of Yamanote line, it was a necessa...

Bjork Magazine

"The stars are so big, The Earth is so small, Stay as you are" (McLuhan 79) As I look over the picture I took from Bjorklunden's trip, I want to make one specific theme about the quote above. As the quote says "Stay as you are", I wanted to show with these pictures how people look for something yet the thing you are looking for is right there in front of you. People are being blinded to the world in front of them. We all look for something out of reach before what is being presented.  I tried to add some story to the book by adding a little bit of words. I started with the entrance to Bjorklunden and continued with trail pictures. Then, I continued with a tree pointing everywhere. And finally finding something inspiring scenery which was just in front of the people. I tried to indicate that what you are looking for is just in front of you by ending the magazine with a night picture of the same scenery as some pictures from the daytime.

https://flic.kr/s/aHBqjC1b8i "The stars are so big, The Earth is so small, Stay as you are" (McLuhan 79)  In this project, I wanted to express my experience of a trip to Bjorklunden, especially since it was my first time going there in the winter term when stars were most visible. Everything from the weather to the nature around the building is only there at Bjorklunden; those things cannot be seen in most of the places I go. Bjorklunden is a special place. Bjorklunden is small yet huge in everyone's heart.   The night sky seems endless and huge. Or are we the ones who are small? As I took these pictures, I thought about how small humans are. As McLuhan stated above, stars are big, and the Earth is small. If you change the perspective to humans, it would be "The earth is so big, and the humans are so small." Against the power of nature, we are powerless. We are amazed by something nature has created unconsciously. Humans are so small, The Earth is so big....

For this project, I wanted to express this quote by McLuhan. "The public consists of separate individuals walking around with separate, fixed points of view." (McLuhan 69) With this video, I wanted to show the audience that every person has a different fixed point of view and will differ from one another. From my experience of my first year at college soccer, I found every player has a different way of "playing soccer". Though as a team needed to find one fixed point of view of what is "playing soccer". The same goes for us throughout time, we have different opinions on almost everything. But in the end, we find one fixed point of view that we can all agree on. I have cut the first part into three clips with different time duration to indicate how me and my friend had differnt POV of the restruant experience. But at the end I only have one clip each to represent we have come toghther at the end. With farther reading "Most people find it diff...

My name is Daito Sho, I don't know where I am from. I was born and raised until 5th grade in Japan and moved to New Jersey for 7 years. Especially with my parents being very active, I have been in contact with many different forms of art. As a child, I was fortunate enough to travel around the globe and experience other ways to express art in different countries. Though I was never into expressing art on my own until recent years. For me art is everything. Music is art. A movie is an art. Clothes and fashions are art. Food is art. Even soccer is art. More and more I think about it, I feel like I am surrounded by art.   As I experienced more art in hand, I started to express my feelings in art. I found out that not necessarily what I am trying to express is what I think. This McLuhan quote stood out to me a lot, especially with my life and how I think when I see art.  “I don't necessarily agree with everything that I say.” (McLuhan)      A project from...
